COSMETIC CHECKLIST FOR SMILE DESIGN

To help us serve you better, the following items are needed to complete a smile design case:

1. Photos of pre-op teeth with shade guide, 1:1, 1:2.

It is very important to have the shade guide visible in the picture because it is our only gauge of shade. Frequently, digital images printed do not match exactly with what is seen in the mouth, so by including a shade guide in the picture, we can compare the actual shade tab to the one in the picture, and make appropriate adjustments to restoration shade. Additionally, when possible we request photos from multiple angles because shots from one angle often have a white "flash spot" in the same location. By taking and sending shots from multiple angles, we have a better understanding of shade across the entire tooth surface.

2. Photos of preps with stump shade tabs.

Including pictures with stump shade tabs is just as critical in many smile design cases as having pictures with regular shade tabs. All-ceramic restorations have a measure of translucency; it is this characteristic that gives them a healthy vital look. However, this translucency can also be a problem when underlying stumps have varying shades. One veneer may look darker in the mouth than the adjacent veneer, even though they are identical out of the mouth. By taking extreme stump shades into consideration, we can effectively chose materials that will yield the best cosmetic results.
